Occasionally-controlled chaos. The essence of watercolor, and myself.

Jason A. Hutto is a visual artist working primarily in water-based media on paper, with watercolor at the center of his practice. His images balance the unpredictability of washes and blooms with deliberate line, shape, and compositional structure.

His broader studio practice includes pen and ink, monoprints, mixed media collage, and digital imaging—allowing handmade and technological processes to overlap rather than remain separate disciplines.

The result is work that can shift from atmospheric to graphic while retaining a consistent interest in transparency, rhythm, surface, and the accumulated history of a page.

Studio training

Hutto earned a BFA in Painting & Drawing from the College of Art, Architecture and Design at Mississippi State University, where he was mentored by renowned Master Watercolorist T. Brent Funderburk.

Graduate study

He earned a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.

Hutto’s work moves between traditional works on paper and image-making processes that allow drawn, printed, collaged, and digital elements to intersect.

The visual language remains consistent across media: transparent passages, accumulated marks, shifting edges, and compositional structures that hold more fluid gestures in tension.
